Lowell School participates in a number of special programs each year: Scholastic Book Fair, Read Across America, & Sasquatch/Young Readers' Choice Superbowl.
Each year, the Scholastic Book Fair helps us raise money to buy new books for the library. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact our school PTA. The book fair occurs in conjunction with parent/teacher conferences in November.
Read Across America is a school-wide reading incentive program. Last year, we challenged the students to read 100,000 minutes in the month of March. They set a school record by reading 188,153 minutes in one month!
The Sasquatch Superbowl is a reading contest for interested fourth and fifth graders. By reading a list of 12 books, fourth grade students can form teams and compete against other students in our school. Our top team then competes against other first place teams in a city-wide competition. Fifth graders read the 12 Sasquatch titles plus 8 Young Readers' Choice titles for a total of 20 books. Once again, our top team competes against the other elementary schools in our district!
